Region I Representative: Brooke Cervantes, NIC
Brooke is a first generation Mexican-American CODA and raised in Dallas, Texas by Veracruzana mother and D.F. father. Both parents met and board at Escuela Nacional de Sordomudos (National School for the Deaf) before it closed its doors in 1967. She moved to New York City in 2008 and attended La Guardia Community College ASL-English Interpretation program while in conjunction working as an advocate/interpreter to expand American Sign Language and spoken language services for Hospital Health Corporation. She holds National Interpreter Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. She is working as a VRI/Trilingual VRS and freelance interpreter in New York City. Brooke enjoys exercising, especially at Crossfit; she is a passionate traveler, and is currently working on a project to promote and encourage the Deaf community in New York City to live a healthy lifestyle.
